SWITS interpreters perform assignments in all settings including courts, law enforcement, health care facilities, social services, educational settings, conferences and more. Our interpreters are certified or highly qualified to interpret in the areas to which they are assigned.

We want to emphasize the fact that SWITS always uses certified legal interpreters for on-site and telephone legal assignments. These interpreters have gone through their state training and have passed the state tests for court interpreting.

For languages which interpreters are not certified, SWITS will ensure that the interpreters are trained in the field of legal interpreting. SWITS medical interpreters have gone through hours of training. They have attended either the Cross Cultural Health Care Program's "Bridging the Gap," a 40-hour training workshop, "Equal Footing for Limited English Proficient Persons," a 16-hour training workshop for community and medical interpreters, or both. "Equal Footing" was developed by SWITS and is growing as a medical and community interpreter training throughout the Midwest. Our American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters are nationally certified and state verified.

SWITS interpreters are trained to follow the National Council on Interpreting in Health Care's (NCIHC) Code of Ethics. Interpreter names will be provided so they can be included in the patient's file for future reference. We conduct background checks on all interpreters sent to your sites.
